Percy is a Tortishell Persian. I first met her during the summer of 2000 when she came to my porch to eat out of the cat food dispenser. She came around and ate all summer. She seemed to be relying on us for food, yet I found it hard to believe a beautiful Persian could be a stray. I couldn’t get near her. Eventually Percy would sit still and look at me when I talked to her, but if I took a step toward her, she would run. Then the following December I heard a meow at the back door. I opened it and was surprised to find Percy sitting there!

I crouched down in front her and said, “What are you doing here?” She stretched out her paw to me as if she were asking for help. I let her in and gave her something to eat. It turned out that Percy was very sick and needed to go to the vet. It took a long time and a lot of care, but she got well.

Percy is very lovable, moody cat. She a lap cat who enjoys attention, but she despises having her fur brushed. She snarls and yowls the entire time I’m doing it. It’s a wonder I don’t get arrested for animal cruelty. She looks like an Ewok - one of those cute little aliens from the third movie in the original Star Wars trilogy - ‘Return of the Jedi’.
